When Do I Need Air Duct Cleaning?
When Is It Time For an Air Duct Cleaning Servicing?
Despite the importance of a clean HVAC system, many home and business owners are unaware that air duct maintenance is needed in their building. By paying close attention to these possible signs of dirty air ducts, you can get the service needed to preserve exceptional indoor air quality.
What are the signs that my air ducts need cleaning?
If, either through a visual inspection or lab testing, you discover any of the following issues, it is likely that your building is in need of air duct cleaning and maintenance:
- Presence of vermin such as rodents or insects. Through small openings that you may not expect to find, outside pests can enter and inhabit your building’s air ducts. In addition to a thorough cleaning, you may also want to consider further work to patch up any entry points if an infestation has occurred.
- Growth of mold inside heating and cooling ducts. Over time, persistent humidity can lead to the accumulation of mold inside air ducts. Usually, this can be identified by the buildup of a dark coating on the surface of the duct and a musty smell.
- Clogging of ducts with particles and debris. Naturally, dust, dirt, and other particles can begin to build up and impede air flow within ducts. This is especially true in recently constructed or renovated buildings.
The cleanliness of a building’s air ducts system is essential to its indoor air quality. Consequently, failing to properly maintain air ducts can lead to a host of health problems for your home or business’s occupants. Many unexplained allergies or illnesses can be attributed to a faulty ventilation system. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that up to 30% of buildings cause what they call “Sick Building Syndrome”, a variety of medical issues such as headaches and respiratory irritation that are caused by poor air quality. In order to prevent this, as well as potentially more severe problems, periodic air duct maintenance is absolutely necessary.

This is very difficult work. Your tips are very helpful
Over time, our air ducts get clogged up with dust and whatever else they suck in. Mine I think are due for a cleaning as I’ve noticed the airflow isn’t what it used to be. I would have to go out and get someone as I don’t have the proper tools to do it myself.
