28 Chores That Take 30 Seconds or Less
Clearly I live in a constantly messy house because I write about how I clean it every week; well parts of it. That’s only partially true. There’s always a partial mess somewhere and rarely is the whole house 100% clean. For me, I usually have at least one part of the house that is 100% clean while others float around 70%. I live in my home where there is chaos that prevents 100% clean; I cause some of the chaos and that’s okay. I can still find things, unless Husband puts them away hides them. ๐
Anyhoo, I like to do 30 second chores to maintain some kind of order and cleanliness in the home without going on cleaning binges, which are reserved for late nights or Saturdays.

There are definitely more 30 second chores that I missed but I’m mostly trying to give you ideas. The numbers are categories with each bullet point representing one-30 second task. My two favorite things to do on this list is to de-clutter and wipe down. Taking away visual clutter instantly makes the space feel cleaner and then wiping it down is the icing on the cake. Now the goal of the 30 second chore is to not do it perfectly but to just drastically improve the area.
What are your favorite easy chores to do?
Angela
Hi Angela!
Wiping down is among my favorites, too. When it comes to cleaning what is most important is motivation. Actually in my case the key word is always “procrastination”. ๐ Thank you for the offered ideas. I find them really helpful.
Regards!
You’re welcome! I agree with the motivation, it’s hard when you just want to put your feet up for just a minute. With the 30 second chores mindset, I think it helps with motivation with how little time it will take to complete. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment Melinda!
Angela, I never thought of it quite this way, but I guess I do alot of the ’30 second chores’. Living with fibromyalgia has led me to try to “maintain” the house in short bursts or “swipes” as I go along each day. One of my favorites is to spray down and wipe the stovetop quite often. There are others in our home on different schedules, so it seems that someone is always in the kitchen, Having the stovetop clean just makes everything feel better–sort of like the Flylady’s shiny sink.
I really appreciate all of your helpful articles. You make a difference!
Gratefully,Lillace
You are so sweet Lillace and I’m so glad I can help. With multiple people in the house, cleaning can be such a hassle and seem impossible, however; by breaking it down into a more manageable system allowing yourself to have little cleaning victories. I agree 100% having a clean stove top is the best.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I do love those “easy” chores! I love to declutter and organize, but the actual scrubbing and cleaning is not my favorite!
I agree, scrubbing is not my favorite either. I do love how these easy chores prolong the deep cleaning sessions.
You’re right about so many chores only needing about 30 seconds to complete.
I just noticed your post about cleaning headlights. I’m checking that one out!
Thanks Barbara, I think breaking it down into smaller time increments makes it easier to be motivated to actually do the chore.
I absolutely love how you broke this into such small chunks. I could do any of these things right now! Thanks for sharing on the weekend re-Treat link party!

This actually makes me want to clean. Highly unusual – good work!
I know, right?! Knowing that it’s a super easy and quick chore helps me to doing the chore faster. I even like to time myself sometimes.
Great ideas! Pinning, and thanks for sharing at my link party!
Thanks Jessi! I’m so happy to come and share at your party, it’s one of my favorites. ๐
Sharing this list. People need to know tidying up doesn’t have to be a major production. Decluttering is my favorite easy chore. So is cleaning the bathroom toilet, sink, and mirror.
Hi Angela, found you on Not Just a Housewife. I love the way you broke these tasks down. Kitchen counter clutter (say that three times real fast!) is my nemesis. This thirty second task is top of my list! I’m just new to your blog, it’s great!
Val @ artsybuildinglady.blogspot.ca
Thanks so much Val! I conquered my kitchen counter clutter last night and now I can see into my living room again. All it took was 30 seconds. ๐
This is Fabulous! Featuring you at our blog hop tonight!
Your list is great, however it does reaffirm my understanding that I am slower than the average bear! Many things on your list take me WAY longer than 30 seconds to do! Wish this was not the case because in our speeded-up world,”slow-moving” and “slow-thinking” people are definitely a source of irritation to the larger, impatient, “fast” world. This is still a wonderful resource, though, which I will definitely use. Thanks for sharing it!
Thanks Jillian! Depending on the day, some of these tasks take me a few minutes to complete but I don’t mind because it’s relaxing for me to see my home become cleaner.
