Whether you\u2019ve never cleaned\nyour rug or it\u2019s been a while, here\u2019s how to clean the area rug on top of your\nhardwood flooring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Start with a Vacuum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing you should do when cleaning your area rug is\nthoroughly vacuum it on both sides. On the side with the fibers you\u2019ll be\neliminating any debris that\u2019s accumulated (such as crumbs and pet hair) and on\nthe underside, you\u2019ll be removing dust that\u2019s piled up underneath. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once it\u2019s been thoroughly vacuumed, it\u2019s also not a bad idea\nto take it outside (weather permitting) and beat it with a broom handle or\ntennis racket to get more dust out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Shampoo It<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The next step after vacuuming and dusting your area rug is\nto shampoo it using a specialized rug cleaner. Before you commit to shampooing\nthe entire surface of the rug, test it out on a small corner to see if there\nwill be any dye migration or fading. It\u2019s also crucial to take a look at what\ntypes of fibers your rug shampoo works best on, otherwise it could cause damage\nthat\u2019s not repairable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read the back of your cleaning product to see how long you\nshould leave it on the rug and whether there are any special instructions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Rinse Your Area Rug&nbsp; <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After the shampoo has had a chance to set in, you\u2019ll need to\nrinse it completely so that you don\u2019t have any residue left on the rug fibers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Dry It Out<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you bring your rug back inside to put on top of your\nhardwood floors, you\u2019ll need to let it completely dry. Although waiting is a\nbig part of the drying process, there are a few things you can do to speed it\nup. You can use either a squeegee or a wet-dry vacuum to wring out your rug and\nget excess water out to help it along. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most important thing, however, is to always dry your rug\ncompletely flat.
