I typically dump out the old water before boiling some new water, which means it has time to sit and scale up my kettle. I probably won&#8217;t change my ways since I don&#8217;t mind de-scaling my kettle when it needs it.<\/p>\n<p>To de-scale your kettle you will need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>water<\/li>\n<li>vinegar<\/li>\n<li>stove (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2051\" src=\"https:\/\/kiwiservices.com\/angela-says\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/how-to-descale-kettle.jpg\" alt=\"how-to-descale-kettle\" width=\"551\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kiwiservices.com\/angela-says\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/how-to-descale-kettle.jpg 600w, https:\/\/kiwiservices.com\/angela-says\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/how-to-descale-kettle-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Add roughly 1 1\/2 cups of vinegar to your kettle then fill it the rest of the way up with water.<br \/>\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2050\" src=\"https:\/\/kiwiservices.com\/angela-says\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/descale-kettle.jpg\" alt=\"descale-kettle\" width=\"551\" height=\"551\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kiwiservices.com\/angela-says\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/descale-kettle.jpg 600w, https:\/\/kiwiservices.com\/angela-says\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/descale-kettle-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/kiwiservices.com\/angela-says\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/descale-kettle-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Bring the vinegar and water mixture to boiling then allow it to cool down. The steamy vinegar will do the work to break down the buildup and disinfect at the same time.<\/li>\n<li>Warn your family member that the water has vinegar in it or they will think the water is for hot chocolate and try to make some.<br \/>\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2049\" src=\"https:\/\/kiwiservices.com\/angela-says\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/cleaning-a-kettle.jpg\" alt=\"cleaning-a-kettle\" width=\"551\" height=\"551\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kiwiservices.com\/angela-says\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/cleaning-a-kettle.jpg 600w, https:\/\/kiwiservices.com\/angela-says\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/cleaning-a-kettle-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/kiwiservices.com\/angela-says\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/cleaning-a-kettle-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>After allowing the water to cool, dump it out and rinse.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Done. Easy. Clean. I only had to put forth the effort of 1-2 minutes to fill it up and dump it out since I asked Husband to turn off the burner while he was in the kitchen. He asked excitedly if I was making hot chocolate and I said &#8220;No, I&#8217;m cleaning.&#8221; I <del>like<\/del> love cleaning when it means sitting on the couch and watching the Olympics. I also love that this method doesn&#8217;t use any harsh chemicals unlike other methods I&#8217;ve used.
